Dr. Stephanie Stratigos
I am a board-certified psychiatrist currently welcoming new patients for psychiatric evaluation, consultation, medication management, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) for substance-use disorders, and psychotherapy. I am an assistant professor at UMass Chan Medical School and much of my career has been working in community health clinics, splitting my time between general psychiatric and outpatient-based addiction treatment services. My prior experience includes treating pregnant and postpartum women living in a recovery shelter, providing psychiatric consultation to patients undergoing inpatient detox, and crisis stabilization. I have also acted as the Medical Director of Emerson Hospital’s Addictions Services and of the outpatient recovery program Right Turn, Inc. My private practice is intentionally small and patient-focused, allowing me to tailor care to each individual’s unique needs. I see patients both in person and via telehealth, with flexible scheduling that includes early morning and evening appointments.
I established my private practice to provide a more personal and accessible approach to mental health care - one where patients have direct access to their physician and feel truly seen and heard. Having worked across diverse behavioral health and addiction-treatment settings, I witnessed how large, one-size-fits-all systems can leave patients feeling stigmatized, overlooked, or misunderstood. In contrast, my practice emphasizes individualized treatment grounded in trust, where you are always seen by and able to contact your doctor directly.
I view psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders as potentially life-threatening, but treatable diseases where there can be great outcomes with proper care. Accordingly, I address people with compassion and without judgment, and I also help patients and their families overcome their own biases in order to reach the ultimate goal of long-term recovery from these devastating diseases. Just as a doctor treats cancer, I remedy these problems until we achieve long-term remission.
I practice evidence-based medicine, and the evidence is clear that harm-reduction approaches and medication-assisted treatment provide the best outcomes for substance use disorders. For most psychiatric conditions, research shows that a combination of medication and therapy is the most effective method; however, good outcomes can still occur with either medication or therapy alone. I am open to exploring the various treatment options with each client individually, in order to come up with a plan that everyone is comfortable with and that maximizes benefit and minimizes risk.
I welcome patients from all backgrounds, cultures, and family structures. I am trauma-informed and experienced in treating complex cases, including dual diagnoses, coexisting chronic pain conditions, and psychiatric concerns during pregnancy and the postpartum phase. I am comfortable and experienced in prescribing Suboxone (Buprenorphine). Additionally, I provide supportive counseling through times of grief, overwhelm, burnout, or while adjusting to and coping with chronic pain, illness or disability. My goal is to meet each patient with professionalism, empathy, and respect, while supporting them in reaching their treatment goals.
